True Story Tuesday~ Colin's Surgery

Well Thursday was the day. Surgery day for Sweet Colin Boy. This kid is a trooper...if you missed that post you can read it here. He went under the knife for a right undescended testicle. Which is the SAME surgery he had 4 years ago on his left side. One would have thought they might have found it then...right? NOPE! So under the knife he went...AGAIN.

We headed downtown to Phoenix Children's Hospital for his 6:30 AM check in. Now mind you this child has not had anything to eat since 6:30 PM the night BEFORE and the only liquid he could have was a tiny sip of water to take his meds with. To say that he was hungry & thirsty was an understatement.

Surgery was scheduled for 7:30 am.

We get there...

...and Colin gets into his very stylish hospital gown...

...and his sassy accessories {Ryan & I actually got to sport one of these bad boys ourselves!}
...and these fun loving socks...which he got to take home! And then...

...we waited...

...and we waited...

...and WE waited...

IF you remember THIS post...then you know that Dr. D is not known for promptness.

An HOUR later he shows up. No we didn't mind the wait one little bit.

So anyways...Colin gets taken away {but only after I have prayed over all of the docs & nurses hands} and I head back to the waiting room...well to wait some more.

About an hour or so later Ryan & I get called back to the recovery room where we find a very sleepy Colin Boy.

Thankfully they put the IV in AFTER he was sedated. I think that was very nice of them...don't you?!
Look at that pouty lip...such a sad face. And he wasn't even awake.
Twenty minutes later he was {almost} awake & {semi} dressed and ready to head home.
See the braclets on his right arm? Well before we went into pre-op he got the white {regulation hospital band} one and the orange {alleregy alert} one. Well RIGHT before he headed back to the OR his doc put the blue one on. I asked him what that was for. Well it has what operation will be preformed & the doc's name. Well now I am thinking...what...are you going let him get lost back there?! And that it needed to be put on the right arm [cuz you see I put his left arm up thinking that since there were already 2 on his right arm, it would be more comfy]. The reason being that it needed to be on his right arm...SO THEY KNEW WHICH SIDE TO OPERATE ON. WHAT???! Shouldn't you ALREADY kinda know what kind of operation and the side you are doing it on BEFORE he gets taken back? just sayin'

But nonetheless the surgery was a success and now he is a 2 balled boy!!

We came home and he has been calling the couch his bed since then. Gotta True Story? Head over to Rachel's & link up

Goodness bless his heart!!!! I am so happy he came through okay and is doing well now - hopefully he can get off the couch soon :)

It amazes me the things they do at the hospital and how slow they move!!!!

Alot of times they will write on the limb they are operating on so they know which one it is. On one hand I am glad they do so they don't make the mistake but then again I think oh my how could they make that mistake to begin with. Oh well with the stories we hear..better safe than sorry I guess.

Awe, glad his surgery went well and he is on his road to recovery.

When my husband went in for surgery they drew on his arm that needed worked on so they knew which arm to fix. That is so weird to me, because the doc knew which one.

Stacy,

Wow! You and I have to talk. My boy, Grant, one of our 8 year old twins just had this same surgery in Ann Arbor. He had a "bilateral orchidopexy". It was done on May 26th and he is doing great. We just went back yesterday for a re-exam. It was tough for my husband and I to go through considering the potential future affects with fertility and such. We are trusting God for all of that, of course, but it still made us both cry at the very thought.

So glad Colin is done. He looked so cute with his pouty sleep expression.

Blessings,
Carol

Hope healing is quick and easy!

When I had knee surgery in March every single person who came in asked which knee and then the doctor wrote Xs on my left knee with a ball point pen! I guess they have to be careful!

OMGosh...what an ordeal. A little different from the first time huh? My poor boy. I can't wait to see him and give him a big hug. Glad he is doing better each day.
Hugs,

isn't it amazing all of the precautions they have to take? I guess it's good but you wonder who had to suffer the wrong surgery to cause the whole bracelet on the right side thing! I'm excited to be your 101st follower! :)

It's always hard to see your child have surgery...

They actually wrote with a marker on my daughter's leg so they knew which one to operate on! Weird.

So glad he is feeling so good already.

I am so glad it went well and he is such a trooper!

My mother actually drew all over the wrist that they were supposed to operate on so they didn't do the switcheroo with me. (Okay, okay... she drew a FACE with a huge head of curly hair and then wrote "Ms. Ima Bump" on it... *sigh*)

Love that pouty sleeping face!

What a sweetheart :) So, so glad it all went well...and they operated on the right side! that always sounds scary, but I can kinda understand how they might get turned around sometimes...all that goes on in an operating room. I used to be an x-ray tech and go into ORs all the time. Better to take all the extra precautions necessary! Whew!

He looks so sweet...neither of my kids have had surgery before..and I'm sure it's so hard waiting to get through! Get well soon!

I'm glad they put the IV in after he was sedated too. That is just unfair pain to have kids suffer through. He looks like he came out ok though, definitely a trooper. :)

I have to say I am not familiar with the wrist band idea, we only use that for name and date of birth...everything else the patient communicates or it is in the chart. Glad he is doing well, he looks great in the discharge photo.
