Diary of a Baseball Mom...

If it's spring...it's baseball season! Well it's spring and the boys have started baseball! Baseball is pretty big in our city...we have spring training here for the 2 major league teams and our little league program is very big...last year there were over 2500 kids playing in our city league from t-ball to kid pitched fast ball. Depending on the age of the player determines what kind of team they play on...both Brendan & Colin play on a kid pitch team in the minor division in the 9-10 yr old league...their team is the Indians. T-ball teams are named after college teams, coach pitch teams are named after AAA farm teams and kid pitch teams are named after MLB teams.

This past Saturday was opening day although they have been holding practices the last few weeks. Baseball is very intense...usually 2-3 games a week now that they are playing in the older division. They love it though...being able to play on the 'real' fields with infields and outfields! (Some of the younger teams just play on grass only fields!)
Saturday the Indians played against the Devil Rays. Above is Colin as the lead off hitter. They have an awesome coach who believes that every kid should learn to play every position so that they have more versatility as they get older and into high school. He is also the assistant varsity baseball coach for the HS where my hubby coaches football!

Being in kid pitch means watching out for wild pitches!! Way to be on the lookout Colin! Thankfully no hitters were hit during the making of this blog!!

In the dugout...that is Colin with his pants full of dirt...he LOVES to slide!

Colin catching...he was really good...I was really nervous!

Brendan playing left field

Brendan's turn to bat. This is Brendan's 2nd season on a kid pitch team. We waived Colin up to play in the division because he is so big (and a pretty good player).

Colin making it to 3rd base; that is the head coach Randy.

Brendan at 3rd base
Both boys had a fantastic game...Brendan had a triple and Colin had 2 walks and 2 runs scored......the final score..Indians 9 - Rays 5.

After the victory, Coach Randy having a meeting with the team.

To be continued...

The next game is this Thursday...Let's Go Indians!

What a difference living in warmer climates make. We are just this Saturday having try outs for baseball. I say bring it on...can't wait.

I also know what you mean about the whole kid pitch. Kaleb pitches and sorry to say has hit a player or two. Yikes...I guess that is how they learn however.
